ο ρουφιανος μας, το knegosite (maritime matters) αναφερει οτι μεχρι 01/07/06 δεν μπορει να μπει σε ινδικα χωρικα υδατα λογω δικαστηριου.

τώρα όμως μπορεί γιατί έγινε άρση της απαγόρευσης (!!). Προφανώς τον αμίαντο τον πήραν εξωγήινοι ή αυτοεξαφανίστηκε

BLUE LADY To Beach

June 5: India's Supreme Court has now lifted the ban on BLUE LADY (ex FRANCE, NORWAY) to enter Indian waters, clearing the way for the iconic ship to be scrapped. The ship will be brought to the Alang in Gujarat. The temporary ban on her delivery over issues raised by Greenpeace relating to the significant quantities of asbestos contaminated material on board has been lifted. The Alang Shipbreakers Association celebrated the decision. The Gujarat Maritime Board working with a private company will monitor potential pollution hazards and a plot of land adjacent to the yard will be used for containing asbestos and for the disposing of hazardous materials from BLUE LADY. All arrangements are to be inspected by two regulatory bodies before the ship is beached. Currently, the ship remains at sea, outside India's territorial waters, under tow by the tugs INTERSURF and SEAWAYS 5.

So many rumors are floating about the BLUE LADY (ex FRANCE, NORWAY), it is difficult to keep abreast of anything tangible. However, the ship did apparently call at Fujerah, UAE for repairs to one of her attending tugs after departing Malaysia on 5 May. She left on 17 June and was due at Alang this week, but the latest indicators from India are that the tug is stalled again and that she will now arrive at the anchorage in two weeks.

BLUE LADY Off Gujarat

June 29: An article in the Hindu Times today places BLUE LADY, ex FRANCE, NORWAY a few nautical miles from Alang in the Arabian Sea off the Gujarat Coast. The owner of Haryana ship demolition company is reported to have said that, "she is expected to reach Pipavav port tonight or by early morning tomorrow." The ex FRANCE has yet to receive permission to be beached at Alang and will be anchored at Pipavav port of Amreli district tonight, or early tomorrow. The BLUE LADY will be allowed into Alang only after the local authorities are given the green light by the Supreme Court. The Court had previously permitted "safe anchorage" to the vessel but had directed that the ship cannot be beached or dismantled until it is properly inspected by cout appointed experts.

Reports from Ahmedabad, India, say that the court ordered inspection of potential hazardous materials on BLUE LADY has been completed. The four day inspection is said to have begun Friday July 8th, while the ship remains at anchor in the huge swells off the coast of Gujarat. No findings have yet been released. The Supreme court ruled that the ship could be scrapped at Alang until it was declared safe by experts which included members of the Gujarat Pollution Control Board, Central Pollution,Control Board and National Institute of Occupational Hazards.

τι αμιαντος και πρασινα αλογα. ο αμιαντος του Blue Lady ειναι λιγος, οχι τοσο επικινδυνος και το τοπικο κλιμακιο του Ινδικου ΥΠΕΧΩΔΕ (Georgarat Sufliandhi ) θα τον απομακρυνει.

In the Indian press today, it was reported that "a senior state official" anonymously confirmed to a leading newspaper that BLUE LADY (ex FRANCE, NORWAY) does have about 1,240 tonnes of "embedded asbestos" on board, "which is considered a very small amount, easily handled locally by the Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB)", who conducted the court ordered inspection. The ship remains at anchor in huge monsoonal swells off Pipavav Port in Gujarat.

August 1: Press from India states that BLUE LADY (ex FRANCE, NORWAY) will be broken at Alang after the Supreme Court Technical Committee granted Gujarat Maritime Board (GMB) permission to beach the ship tomorrow.

συμφωνα με το ss maritime δεν εχει λυθει το θεμα του αμιαντου και η αδεια να προσεγγισει το αλανγκ το πλοιο δοθηκε για ανθρωπιστικους λογους (και καλα να μην κινδυνευσει το πληρωμα απο τους μουσωνες). ελπιζουν ακομη...

We need to understand that SS Blue Lady has not been rammed up onto the beach as with many other ships that do so with their engines running at full steam. As the TV2 French photo proves (see the two photographs below), she was towed toward the beach by tugs at high tide, and then left at anchor. Whereas the photograph provided by Mr. Michel Perrin of Grenoble France, shows her at the same place, but during the low tide, when she does rest on the sand. This photograph certainly looks bad. However, we have to understand that there is a 32 to 36 foot difference between low and high/king tides. Thus, during the high tide she is mostly afloat, then, with her ballast proper, she will have feet to spare as she did when tugs placed her there. We have been told by experts, that there is little to no damage to the ship.

Honestly, the problem now is not a problem with physically moving the ship, but with the various sub-contractors that are entwined in the dismantling process.

συμφωνα με το ssmaritime, η αποφαση του δικαστηριου θα βγει 4 Δεκεμβριου. Ναι μεν μεχρι τοτε δεν μπορει να γινει τιποτα στο πλοιο, αλλα μετα απο 5 μηνες που θα καθεται high and dry το μελλον ειναι προδιαγεγραμμενο.

πιστευω οτι (οπως και στη χωρουλα μας) η αναβολη των δικαστικων αποφασεων δικαιωνει παντα τον θρασυτερο.

November 1: BLUE LADY (ex NORWAY, FRANCE) has been sitting in the mud off shore for two and a half months awaiting a decision from the Indian Supreme Court as to whether she will be scrapped on site or sent away. Although there are some inaccurate reports stating she is to have her boiler repaired to sail in South African waters next year, the sad truth is that the MONTE (ex FREE STATE MARINER, MONTEREY) is steaming slowly through the Red Sea toward the Indian beach. This is particularly heartbreaking, as she is in better cosmetic condition than most brand new ships. She will be joined by the TROPICANA, the former Belgian ferry PRINSES PAOLA, which recently took on bunkers at Gibraltar following a crossing from Freeport, where she has spent the past several years in layup. There have been no updates on the scheduled arrival of ANDAMAN PRINCESS, but the demolition of FOREST (ex 33 ORIENTALES, CITY OF RHODOS, QUEEN ELENI, QUEEN CONSTANTINA) is nearing completion, with only a third of the ship's hull left.

με αφορμη αναφορα του Aris στο maritime matters το επισκεφτηκα μετα απο μερες και ειδα οτι το Norway θα παραμεινει τουλαχιστον μεχρι τις 7 Μαρτίου (παρτυ παρτυ στις 7 του μαρτη ) καθισμενο στα αβαθη του Alang, αλλα και ανεγγιχτο. Τοτε θα συνεδριασει το Ανωτατο Δικαστηριο της Ινδιας για να αποφασισει αν εχουν γινει ολες οι ενεργειες ωστε να μην υπαρξει καμια απολυτως περιβαλλοντικη συνεπεια απο τη διαλυση του πλοιου και τον αμιαντο που κουβαλαει. Παλιοτερα σε καποια sites φιλων του Norway ειχα δει οτι ελπιζουν σε κατι θετικο. τωρα τι θετικο μπορει να γινει σε ενα βαπορι που: εχει να δεξαμενστει απο το 2001, ειναι χωρις μηχανες απο το 2003 και εχει περασει απο τοτε 2 χρονια παροπλισμενο, εναμισυ χρονο ρυμουλκουμενο απο ραδα σε ραδα και απο τον περασμενο αυγουστο καθεται στα αβαθη;

BLUE LADY (ex FRANCE, NORWAY) continues to sit at her plot bearing witness to all the dying ships around her. All environmental reports are due shortly from the shipbreaking company that purchased her for the Indian Supreme Court to review. The court's decision on her fate is to be made on 7 March. By then, the famed ship will have been lying on the beach for six months.

March 12: The Indian Supreme Court has given the Gujarat Maritime Board, the Technical Experts Committee, and the Gujarat Pollution Control Board three months to advise if certain environmental stipulations can be met for the dismantling of BLUE LADY (ex FRANCE, NORWAY). This is the latest in delays for a decision on the fate of the famed ship, which was beached on August 15, 2006. Although the court has determined that BLUE LADY cannot now be removed from the embankment, the newest concern seems to be over whether 80 percent of the ten metric tons of asbestos on board can be reused as claimed, how asbestos dust will be contained during its removal, and which agency will be entrusted to oversee the work

BLUE LADY's Black Gold

May 16: The Indian Supreme Court has granted Priya Blue, the Alang-based shipbreaking company that purchased the BLUE LADY (ex FRANCE, NORWAY) permission to remove the remaining oil from the ship's tanks. No firm word on demolition has been granted, however. That decision may arrive within the next ten days.
