Goldenport buys

Goldenport Holdings has agreed to purchase an unnamed containership for $10.5m, the London-listed owner said Monday.

Paris DragnisThe ship is being acquired from Panama registered Cosmo Shipholding and is expected to be delivered within March 2009.

The acquisition will initially be financed by cash reserves, but Goldenport is in negotiations to secure finance for at least half of the vessel’s value.

Cosmo Shipholding’s only owned vessel is said to be the 4,700-teu containership NYK Procyon (built 1995).

Goldenport also confirmed it had taken delivery of its first dry bulk newbuilding – the 53,800-dwt double-hulled geared Marie Paule.

The bulker is one of two vessels ordered at China’s Jiangsu Eastern Heavy Industries as part of a joint venture with Glencore.

The two bulkers were ordered in 2007 for $32m each, a price Goldenport described as competitive “even in today’s market”.

The new bulker delivery and the containership acquisition lift Goldenport’s fleet to thirty bulkers and containerships.
