CARNIVAL AND RCCL BOOK CRUISE SHIPS AT MEYERS

Wednesday, 13 July 2005

GERMAN shipyard Meyer Werft has won a firm order and a letter of intent for cruise ships from two major players.

US–based Carnival Corporation has ordered a 68,500 gt cruise ship for its AIDA Cruises brand, which caters exclusively to the German-speaking market, marking the third new ship order placed with Meyer for its German cruise line in the past nine months. The euros315m vessel is for April 2008 delivery.

It will be a sister ship to AIDA's two previously announced for newbuildings due to enter service in April 2007 and April 2009.

Meanwhile Royal Caribbean Cruise Ltd’ subsidiary Celebrity Cruises, has signed a letter of intent for a 117,000 gt post-panamax cruise ship, the first to be built at the Papenburg yard.
