ITALIAN-based classification society RINA has announced record growth and turnover for the 2006 financial year. Turnover for 2006 was euros130m, up 15% per cent on 2005, and EBITDA was Euro22.5m.

“These excellent results continue our steady improvement in both economic and quality terms,” says Ugo Salerno, RINA's CEO. “The results reflect our continuing investment in human resources and enlarging our global network and range of services. During 2006, RINA Group personnel grew by more than 200 skilled people and we opened seventeen new offices in areas of strategic relevance for the company.”

Mr Salerno continues, “2006 was a record year for RINA and it shows how we can grow across all our services without forgetting our tradition of competence, quality of service and dedication to safety and the environment.”

RINA’s Marine Division ended the year with an all-time high of 20m gt in its classed fleet and says it looks with confidence to the future thanks to an orderbook which totals more than 25 per cent of the classed tonnage. It also says it is experiencing "exceptional growth" in both the megayacht and navy ship sectors
