ST. TROPEZ Auctioned September 14: The 1975-built casino cruise ship ST. TROPEZ, (ex CASTALIA, SCANDIVANIA SAGA, PRIDE OF SAN DIEGO, TROPIC STAR II, EMERALD EMPRESS, SOFIA, ENCHANTED SUN, TALISMAN, MANISTAL) which ceased trading in May and has been anchored off Fort Lauderdale beach with occasional visits to Port Everglades since mid-June, was auctioned yesterday in the lobby of the Broward County Courthouse, Florida and fetched US$3.8 million. The ship was ordered sold at the courthouse to satisfy creditors. 26 crew remained on board while the auction was arranged, while the rest of the crew of about 140 were flown home to various foreign countries. Daniel Chui, a managing director of V. Ships Group, was the reported as the high bidder but declined to comment. V. Ships, best known for managing the marine and technical functions on ships, is not generally a ship owner of but has a division that buys, sells and charters ships on behalf of their clients.
