Hello,

The German automobile club "ADAC" made this year a test of greek ferries.

They tested:

- Ionian King

- Sophocles V

- Theologos P

- Lato

- Theofilos

- Superferry II

- Prevelis

- Mytilene

- Aqua Jewel

- Vitsentzos Kornaros

- Penelope A

- Phivos

- Nefeli

- Sardinia Vera

The winner of the test was the Ionian King which good the best mark, the worst was the Sardinia Vera.

Here you can find the german website: if you need help to translate, feel free to ask me :)

SNAEFELL (to be renamed as MASTER JET) New highspeed ferry for Sea Jets

Hmm, you see I am still not sure about that. ShipPax also published the following article;

SNAEFELL leaves for Greek charter

Isle of Man Steam Packet fast craft SNAEFELL has left lay-up at Birkenhead

to head via Gibraltar to Piraeus to start a charter for NEL Lines,

reportedly filling in for sister 74m Incat CYCLADES EXPRESS which is

believed to have suffered fire damage.

SNAEFELL (Incat 026), taken out of service by the Steam Packet last winter,

was previously linked with a move to the Indian Ocean for service between

India and Sri Lanka. Built in 1991 SNAEFELL became the Steam Packet's first

fast craft when debuting as SEACAT ISLE OF MAN in 1997.

CYCLADES EXPRESS (Incat 028) operated as SEACAT SCOTLAND from 1991 to 2007

and was in the Red Sea until joining NEL last year to start services to

Santorini from the Cretan ports of Heraklion and Rethymon.

Both craft are Ruston powered and can take around 450 passengers and 88

cars.

According to Equasis, SNAEFELL is still owned by MIOM 1 Ltd and managed by The Isle Of Man Steam Packet Company Ltd. I am still certain she is only on charter to Nel Lines or Sea Jets.

Dear Steam Packet Co

For the moment we are not 100% certain whether Sea Jets has bought Snaefell or they have just chartered her for the summer season (as you insist). The only thing that we are sure is that she will operate for Sea Jets and not for NEL LINES.

When I saw her on her first day at Keratsini, some of the crew onboard were wearing Seajets working uniforms.

Shippax have been known, on occasion, to take information from enthusiast groups and I suspect this has happened here with a bit of misinformation from the Irish Sea side as to who the charterer were.

One thing is sure - although the Snaefell is a bit of a grim ship from a generally quite grim company, she will probably prove more use than the last Steam Packet ferry which headed to Greek waters :)

SNAEFELL is not 'grim', she is far from it. She is a beautiful vessel, inside and out. I will miss her this summer.

And if you are referring to the LADY OF MANN, who was sold to SAOS in 2005 and is now laid up? That is not through her own fault, SAOS are now bankrupt and all of their fleet except SAOS II are laid up.

I found the Panagia Soumela a quite regrettable ship to sail on both as Lady of Mann and in her Greek guise, certainly one of the most regressive and backward-looking car ferries ordered in the past half century although SAOS tried their best to make her usable for their needs. At least the food was better on SAOS than on the Steam Packet!

I guess we will have to agree to disagree on the merits of the Snaefell which is in reality nothing more than a generic 74m Incat.

I see that Highspeed 4 is going to replace Flying Cat 4 on the Iraklion to Mykonos route from mid-May. So does anyone know what is going to happen to Highspeed 4's normal route to Paros, Naxos, Koufonissi and Amorgos? Is anything happening to Highspeed 5 yet, following the fire? is Hellenic Seaways going to buy another catamaran or charter one as a replacement?
